One of my best friends called me this week and told me that she just started clipping coupons for the first time in her life. All across the country, moms and dads are sitting down at their kitchen tables and figuring out how to make their money stretch farther. If we are thinking carefully about our money, it's only fair that our leaders do the same. How?

I'm a self-proclaimed optimist and hopeful about the "yes, we can" message emanating from Washington. But I felt as if I'd been kicked in the gut last week when I read a New York Times article by Robert Pear about price gauging in health policies for women.

Politics - like parenthood - is a marathon, not a sprint. Now that the election is over, it's time to turn our attention to the next leg of this race, getting family policies passed. And President-Elect Obama and the new Congress will need our voices and support in order to make this happen.

I can’t imagine my life without the two enchanting creatures that fill my days with snuggles, laughter and new adventures. I wouldn’t trade my role as a mother for anything in the world. In all honesty, there are some societal trends that have me concerned about the pressures being placed on contemporary moms.

Woo hooo!!! The Paid Sick Days Ballot Initiative in Milwaukee, WI won in a landslide victory on Tuesday, with the approval of 68% of voters. This is a huge win for the citizens of Milwaukee, who will now be able to earn paid sick days when this law goes into effect.
