Beatriz is a multidisciplinary artist, organizer, and philanthropic strategist with over two decades of experience designing and leading campaigns, building coalitions, and developing the organizing infrastructure that sustains movements. As a contributing author to the Vision for Black Lives, the Movement for Black Lives' landmark policy platform, and as a lead member and co-architect of the Community Safety Working Group, she has helped shape the national policy agenda that drives the Community Safety Agenda, a joint project of more than 70 organizations dedicated to building safety that invests in people and communities. She co-founded the National Black Food and Justice Alliance, a national formation advancing Black food sovereignty, land rights, and self-determining food economies. As National Director of Youth and Family Justice at MomsRising, she leads nationwide campaigns against the school-to-prison pipeline and on juvenile and criminal justice issues. She has developed advocacy frameworks and community alliances across the country that drive policy impact at scale. She serves on the board of Impact Justice, where she supports accountability and healing for justice-impacted community members. Beatriz holds an MA in Women and Gender Studies from Loyola University Chicago, an MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a post-graduate certificate in fundraising and development from NYU. She brings deep training across the movement ecosystem, including Rockwood Leadership, BOLD, the Feminist Organizing School, and the People's Institute for Survival and Beyond. Her work is rooted in an unwavering commitment to the leadership and wisdom of directly impacted communities as the essential foundation for lasting change, grounded in the conviction that transformative change is built, not borrowed.
*I lower case my name to honor bell hooks, who showed us through even the spelling of her own name that the ideas are what matter, not the ego behind them. She shaped how I think, feel, and try to inhabit this world.
