Is it a simple ear infection or a disaster waiting to happen?

January 20, 2015
Like many sandwich generation moms, I've been around the block when it comes to maladies of the ear. Both of my elderly parents are hard of hearing; and before my daughter reached 2nd grade, she had endured four ear surgeries. So I thought I'd seen it all. But the other day, I met a woman who...

“If you want to be important—wonderful. If you want to be recognized—wonderful. If you want to be great—wonderful. But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That’s a new definition of greatness. And this morning, the thing that I like about it: by giving that definition...

January 6, 2015
We’ve heard for months that the economy is improving, except for one stubborn problem: workers’ wages aren’t rising the way they should be in a recovery. Progress and Setbacks for Pregnant Women in Prison: 2014 in Review

December 31, 2014
As we reflect on the past year, we see that 2014 brought some progress on protecting the reproductive health and rights of women who are incarcerated, but also revealed the deep, even intractable, problems that women face inside prison walls. Reducing the scale of incarceration is a critical part of any strategy to safeguard the health, rights, and futures of women who experience incarceration.

What's on your W2? Equality?

December 30, 2014
Wage discrimination is very difficult to prove, but a few years ago I did just that. You see, the person who earned more than me is now my husband. We met 9 years ago at Columbia University, and we graduated together with the EXACT same degree.
