Statement “The Washington Childcare Access Now (CAN) Act is vitally important legislation that has the potential to address the childcare crisis that is plaguing our state. Making quality childcare affordable for all families is of paramount importance to MomsRising and its members. Right now in Washington, the average cost of infant care is nearly equal to mortgage payments for a year and more than three in five families live in a ‘childcare desert,’ without access to the affordable, quality care they need.

Statement “It’s hard to believe it’s possible, but it appears from today’s U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General’s report that the Trump administration’s cruel treatment of asylum-seeking families has been even worse – in fact, much worse – than previously reported.

News release Olympia, WA — Moms and kids gathered at the Capitol to make waves and ask lawmakers to support the “Mamagenda,” setting the course for policies that support family caregivers in the workplace, invest in high-quality early learning, make childcare affordable, close the wage gap, and clean up our tax code.

Statement “As a nation, we have no higher priority than to make our schools, communities, workplaces, streets, homes, families and children safer. At this time when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that gun deaths in America are the highest they have been in 40 years, the need for strong, common sense gun safety measures is urgent and compelling. We commend Speaker Nancy Pelosi and all U.S. House leaders for recognizing that and making H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, a priority in the new Congress.

Statement “Tonight, President Trump misled and told outright lies in an attempt to pressure Congress to appropriate funds for a border wall the country doesn’t want and doesn’t need. Once again, he put his perceived political interests ahead of the best interests of the country and of our children and families. In his quest to build a wall to satisfy his shrinking political base, the President has misused the military, misstated the facts and done his best to foment hostility toward immigrants and asylum-seekers.

Statement “Fair-minded people across the country are celebrating today’s long overdue move by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam to grant clemency to Cyntoia Brown, a victim of sex trafficking who has already served 15 years in prison. We applaud Gov. Haslam for taking this step.

Statement “Moms across the nation know that our right to vote is essential to our communities’ and our nation’s health, that every vote should be counted, and that there is no place in our country for voter suppression. We also know that, at this time when faith in our government is badly strained, the For the People Act is necessary to reinforce the foundations of our democracy.

Statement "The partial government shutdown beginning now is completely unnecessary, profoundly harmful to hundreds of thousands of families, and totally, 100 percent avoidable. It’s shameful that the President would make this happen to so many government workers right before the holidays.

Statement “As President Trump prepares to leave for another country club vacation at Mar-a-Lago, his parting shot is a brazen, heartless attempt to do through regulation what legislators would not: Make it harder for hungry families to get the food and nutrition they need.
