Statement “There’s good news and bad news in the American Time Use Survey released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics last week. The good news is that more people are able to access and use paid leave, which is good for our nation’s families. The bad news is that it’s still the case that people in low-wage jobs, particularly women, often don’t have access to paid leave.

Statement “There's no question that millions of American women, moms and their families have already benefitted from the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Moms like Christine Farley, whose son has Cystic Fibrosis, and who no longer has to worry that he’ll be denied coverage because of his pre-existing condition or run into a lifetime cap on his health care coverage. Moms like Tracy Munoz, whose adult sons will be covered under her and her husband’s insurance plans until they reach 26.

Statement "As an organization that represents more than a million women and mothers who regularly experience the negative effects of wage discrimination, and one that has worked tirelessly to urge Congress to take steps to end that discrimination, we at MomsRising are deeply disappointed in the Senate's failure to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.   "It's outrageous that today, on average, women earn 77 cents to a man's dollar. And this disparity is even greater for moms, single moms and women of color.

News release It’s a Mother’s Day “fantasy.” Three kids start up a “your mom” game – “your mom’s so cool, she makes three hours of sleep and a once-a-week shower look good.” “Your mother is so patient, your little brother gets tired of asking ‘why.’” “Your mom is so underpaid, she only makes 73 cents compared to a man’s dollar.” What? On the game goes with one little kid who doesn’t seem to get the “your mom” concept and the kids start fighting until their mothers come out and pull them apart as the children continue to shout out praises for their moms.

Statement The recently drafted Women’s Option to Raise Kids Act – or the WORK Act – is a great way to get us on the right track for talking about how best to ensure that we, as a nation, truly value the work and contributions of all mothers and families.  This bill recognizes that raising children is important and valuable work, and it would give moms who receive Temporary Assistance to Needy Families the same opportunity that some other women get – the opportunity to stay home to raise their own children for the first three years.
