News release A recent Wall Street Journal article suggested that moms may be too tired and stressed to vote: “The recession has slammed our families, we’re working harder than ever and we no longer care much about voting…All these worn-out moms need to do is stay home to impact the elections.” MomsRising, the online and on-the-ground organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, is urging moms, dads and others to do just the opposite.

Statement “Speaker of the City Council Christine Quinn’s announcement that she is pulling her support from the Paid Sick Time Act demonstrates stunning disregard for the needs and rights of workers in New York City. No worker – mom, dad or otherwise – should have to choose between keeping a job and taking time off to recover from illness or care for a loved one.

News release Since its passage six months ago, some politicians, pundits and prognosticators have been hitting the airwaves insisting that the Affordable Care Act is too complicated, too cumbersome and doomed to fail. Yet, very little has been heard from the families that might take advantage of the new law’s provisions – provisions that will expand health care coverage to a more than an additional than 30 million people, and curb insurance company practices of dropping people when they get sick, denying coverage for children who have pre-existing conditions, and lifetime caps.

The award recognizes Senator Harkin’s efforts to pass health reform for America’s families and his efforts to ensure that addressing childhood obesity, preventive care and nutritional labeling were included in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

News release Today marks the twelfth anniversary of Healthy Families Program which has allowed nearly 900,000 California children to see a doctor, get their teeth cleaned, and get their eyes checked. This program has given peace of mind to hundreds of thousands of California parents who are struggling financially. To celebrate the “birthday” of the program, California moms and kids delivered birthday cards to the California legislature. The cards contained messages of thanks collected by MomsRising from its members across the state.
