Statement “America’s moms will fight the Trump administration proposal, released today, to replace the Flores Settlement Agreement with regulations that subject many more immigrant children to abuse, neglect and incarceration. Although the Trump administration has violated it time and again, the Flores Settlement requires our government to prioritize child welfare when it takes custody of immigrant children. Replacing it with these regulations would be calculated and cruel.

Statement “Last minute data dumps. Hidden records. A nomination by a president who is possibly an unindicted co-conspirator to federal crimes committed to influence the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. The hearing before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee today is taking place under a toxic cloud and it should be halted.

Statement “We commend the jurors who convicted former police officer Roy Oliver for the murder of Jordan Edwards last night, the prosecutors who argued the case, and all those who are speaking out against the police brutality that is horrifyingly common in this country and so often takes the lives of Black youth. Police brutality must end and until it does, successful prosecutions of police who abuse their power should be the norm and not the exception.

Statement “This week, U.S. Senator Kamala Harris introduced a revolutionary bill addressing the main factors that cause racial disparities in maternal health outcomes. By providing $30 million in annual grants to train against racial bias and incentivize health care professionals, this bill has the potential to ameliorate a national crisis.

Statement “Black Women’s Equal Pay Day is an annual reminder of a gross and continuing injustice in our country. Today in the United States, Black women face a shameful wage gap of 63 cents on the dollar, and it is even worse – just 51 cents – for Black mothers.

Statement “The paid parental leave proposal introduced by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio is deeply, dangerously and fundamentally flawed.

Statement “The Trump administration’s failure to reunite hundreds -- perhaps more than 1,000 -- children with their parents or family members by today’s deadline is cruel, inhumane and inexcusable. The administration’s failure to comply with the court order is exacerbating the trauma and pain for all involved. Every day, every hour, every moment that children remain separated from their parents means more terror and more trauma for all involved.

Statement “The tax plan House Republicans released today is another dangerous, damaging plan that would undermine the programs working moms and families rely on in order to give even more tax breaks to the wealthiest people and corporations. It is more a scam than a plan – an unconscionable raid on hard-working Americans that will jeopardize essential health care, education, food and nutrition, housing and other essential programs.
July 24, 2018
Statement “The United States has the worst maternal mortality rate in the developed world and it’s getting worse, not better. Put simply, moms are dying in childbirth and Black moms are at especially high risk. Congress needs to prioritize the health and lives of those who give birth.

Statement “At this moment when more than 2,500 migrant children remain forcibly separated from their parents due to the cruel and indefensible actions of the Trump administration, we thank and commend U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) for introducing the REUNITE Act in the United States Senate.
