Statement “The moms of America can breathe a sigh of relief now that the Republican Farm Bill failed on the floor of the House of Representatives. The rejection of this bill is a victory for America’s families, because it includes callous, new requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that would take food assistance away from people who do not work a set number of hours. The proposed changes to SNAP would have stripped food assistance away from millions, including children. Its failure is a victory for moms, families, children, our economy and our country.

Statement “It is not even summer and already there have been 22 shootings at schools in our country this year. One school shooting would be horrifying; 22 is catastrophic and absolutely unacceptable. Our children deserve better than growing up in fear that they will be shot at the place they go to learn.

Statement “America’s moms are horrified by the Trump administration’s destructive immigration policy that hurts women and children in particular. The policy reported late yesterday, that the federal government is preparing to house immigrant children at military bases, is unconscionable.

Statement “We commend every United States Senator who voted to repeal the Federal Communications Commission’s changes to net neutrality rules today. This vote is an essential step forward for fairness, free speech, consumers and advocacy groups like MomsRising, which rely on a free Internet to fight for economic and social justice. The House of Representatives must do the same.

Statement “The Trump administration proposal to cut $7 billion from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is ill-advised and reckless. If Congress agrees to this irresponsible cut, children and families across our country will suffer.

Statement “The announcement by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, that the Trump administration will prosecute all asylum-seekers who enter our country and separate all asylum-seeking parents from their children, reflects a breathtaking level of cruelty. Even Sessions concedes that these families are fleeing violence and devastation -- which makes it especially troubling that the administration plans to compound their trauma by tearing them apart at a time when all they have is each other.

Statement “House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway today introduced an ill-considered plan that will make it harder for hungry families to access the food they need. Conaway added a proposal to the 2018 Farm Bill to implement unnecessary, harmful and overly restrictive work requirements to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families afford groceries when they’re going through hard times.

Statement “Deporting thousands of families who came to the United States after Nepal’s 2015 earthquakes is callous and heartless. Nepal has not restored its infrastructure and cannot provide adequate food, water, housing and health care to those who return, especially at this time when the country is plagued by civil unrest.
