Statement “In passing two bills that make the significant investment in child care we urgently need, the U.S. House of Representatives took a bold step to stave off the collapse of our child care system, which would cripple our economic recovery. Without child care, parents are struggling to work and, as states continue to reopen, this will only get worse, making it impossible for many parents of young children to return to the workforce.

Statement “The Trump administration memo, issued yesterday, was another cruel attempt to deport, demean and detain immigrants. Trump’s decision to accept no new applicants in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and renew protections for one year instead of two is a step on the road to dismantling the program. It circumvents the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision and is another disgraceful attempt to sow hatred and division.

Statement “Children and seniors are going hungry, moms and kids are being evicted, families are being plunged deeply into debt, and people are watching their savings, college and retirement funds – built up over a lifetime – dwindle and disappear. Yet the package U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans just released utterly fails to meet this moment of crisis in a meaningful way, and the time it took them to develop it all but ensures there will be gaps in eviction protections, unemployment boosts, and other supports families urgently need. The U.S.

Statement “Outrageous. Immoral. Unconstitutional. Pathetic. The President’s decision to send troops to Portland, Oregon, against the wishes of state and local officials, is an appalling abuse of power and a violation of the most basic rights of American citizens. It is profoundly disturbing that federal troops – in camouflage and wearing no identification – have forced people into unmarked cars, threatened and tried to intimidate protestors, and used tear gas against public officials.

Statement “Yesterday’s federal court ruling is a miscarriage of justice that will cause real and immediate harm to asylum-seeking families already suffering trauma from being separated and detained. No mom or dad should ever be forced to choose between giving up a child or exposing her or him to COVID-19, which has already taken more than 140,000 lives in our country.

Statement “The murder of Vanessa Guillen is an unspeakable tragedy, made all the more appalling by the military’s utter failure to protect this young woman and then to effectively investigate her disappearance and murder. When your child chooses to serve her country by enlisting in the military, you hope it will brighten her future and you worry about dangers associated with combat, not dangers posed by fellow soldiers.

Statement “As moms, we cannot imagine having to choose between staying together in detention where COVID is raging or separating our families in order for our children to be safe. ICE must immediately release all families together. There is no one better suited to care for their child than a loving parent. Detaining children and families is traumatizing, heartless and extraordinarily dangerous in the face of COVID -19.

Statement “Today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled, by the slimmest of margins, to invalidate the Trump administration’s cruel, racist move to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program. This is a great day for the country. Most immediately, today’s ruling means that some 700,000 immigrant youth can remain in the only country most have ever called home, which will strengthen our health care system, our economy and our country.

Statement “Today the highest court in our land struck a blow for fairness, justice and equality at work by ruling that existing civil rights law protects working people from discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. In ruling by a margin of 6 – 3 that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination against LGBTQ+ people, the U.S. Supreme Court granted LGBTQ+ workers the protections everyone deserves against unfair treatment in the workplace.

Statement “At this time when people across the United States are stepping forward to take a stand against systemic racism and police violence, it is shameful that the Trump administration is trying to institutionalize its racist immigration and asylum policies. Families belong together. We are all connected. And every family deserves a chance to live free of violence.
