Statement “Tonight, President Trump will speak for the first time before a joint session of Congress, and all indications are that he will continue to push a radical alt-right agenda that hurts our families, our communities, our economy, and threatens the underpinnings of our democracy. His vision strips healthcare from tens of millions of Americans, perpetuates Islamophobic falsehoods, weakens important workplaces protections, undermines family incomes, and tears communities and families apart via mass deportations.

News release Nearly 1,500 members of MomsRising, a national organization of more than 1 million people fighting to boost family economic security, will attend town halls and other events this week to urge their members of Congress to protect health care coverage and not to gut health programs like the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Medicaid, Medicare and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), which boost our economy and are lifesavers for families across the country.

Statement “Last night, Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser made the right decision to allow a strong, comprehensive paid family and medical leave insurance bill to advance to a 30 day congressional review period. For too long, too many working families in D.C. have been forced to choose between their families’ health and a paycheck at the moment they need it most. By allowing this historic bill to move forward, Mayor Bowser respected the will of her constituents and supported a policy that will give D.C.

Statement “Diversity makes America strong, creative and prosperous - and that diversity comes from immigrants. We know that immigrants play a large and important role in our economy, but today’s #DayWithoutImmigrants action proves just how important immigrants are: founding many of our largest companies, creating and running small businesses, employing many people in our nation, playing an important role in our labor force, and as caregivers, workers, and community members.

Statement “Today, Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination to be the United States Secretary of Labor, a major victory for America’s working moms, dads and families and a demonstration of the power of grassroots activism. Half of all primary breadwinners are moms. The U.S. Department of Labor is critical to the everyday lives of working moms and their families, and together we showed that we will persist and will not accept a Labor Secretary who does not value working families and does not prioritize policies that will boost our national economic security.

Statement “In another cynical, partisan vote, the U.S. Senate last night confirmed Rep. Tom Price to serve as the nation’s next U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) – putting our country’s health care system at risk. This confirmation will exacerbate the deep anxiety that moms and caregivers around the country have about whether their families will be able to get the health coverage and care they need.

Statement “It is nothing less than shameful that the U.S. Senate tonight confirmed Jeff Sessions to serve as U.S. Attorney General – our country’s chief law enforcement officer. Sessions’ record on basic civil rights is profoundly disturbing. His vision for America hurts our children, families, communities, economy and country.  In fact, Sessions’ use of racist rhetoric and targeting of civil rights activists rightly cost him a seat on the federal bench years ago, and it should have disqualified him from serving as U.S.

Statement “Every Senator who voted to confirm Betsy DeVos to serve as U.S. Secretary of Education today should be ashamed. They put allegiance to an unpopular and dysfunctional president over the best interests of our children, our education system, our economy and our country – and above the wishes of their constituents, who spoke out in record numbers through phone calls, letters, faxes, and even in-person meetings to urge them to reject this nominee.

Statement “It’s time – past time – to make paid leave a reality for all workers in this country. Whether it’s to care for a newborn you swear already smiles, a mom who is ill, or a spouse battling cancer, being there for family is what matters. You shouldn’t have to give up your paycheck, or risk losing your job, to do so.

Statement “Since taking the oath of office, President Trump has pursued an agenda that undermines the values of our communities and the democratic principles that make our nation great. With so much at stake, it is critical that the U.S. Supreme Court remains an independent check on Presidential authority - one that protects the rights of all people and stands firm against discrimination. Neil Gorsuch will not be that check.
