News release “Ending DACA (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program) would be a massive blow not just to the 600,000+ people enrolled in the program but to our workforce, our economy, and our country. We are pleased that the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing people in the program to renew their status – for now – and that it sent the case back to the lower court to consider the new Biden administration regulation fortifying the program.

Statement “Structural racism and sexism. Insufficient workplace protections. Widespread bias and discrimination. A shamefully inadequate minimum wage, Lack of paid leave, child care and inadequate investments in home- and community-based care that would allow family caregivers to return to work. And now bans on access to abortion care, while maternal morbidity rises. All of these are or will be driving factors in the disgraceful wage gap Black women face, which remains one of the widest and most damaging of any racial or ethnic group.

Statement “America’s moms are grateful to U.S. Representatives Alma Adams (D-NC) and Ashley Hinson (R-IA) and U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Jeff Merkley (D-OR) for championing the resolution to designate September 19, 2022 as National Stillbirth Prevention Day. In the United States, some 23,000 pregnancies end in stillbirth each year. That is more than 60 stillbirths every day, and they bring crushing disappointment and immense grief to moms and families.

Statement “The Trump administration’s ‘public charge’ rule was cruel and racist, and moms are thrilled that the Biden administration replaced it with a fair, compassionate rule that will allow hard-working immigrant families to access food, health care, and other essential services they need to thrive.

Statement “Today serves as a shameful reminder that year after year, being a mom remains an even greater predictor of wage discrimination in the United States than being a woman. And year after year, moms of color experience the widest, most damaging wage gaps due to structural racism. For every dollar paid to White dads in our country, moms are paid just 58 cents – and Latina moms are paid just 48 cents, Native American moms just 50 cents, and Black moms just 52 cents.

Statement “We are so pleased that, for the first time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Breastfeeding Report Card looks at state paid family and medical leave laws and early care and education policies. These two critically important issues have a direct impact on moms’ ability to breastfeed their infants, as well as our ability to support and care for our families.

Statement “Women’s Equality Day is a time to assess the status of women in our society and to consider whether women of all races and income levels are making progress. By those measures, there is little to celebrate this Women’s Equality Day.

Statement “Tens of millions of us are carrying unmanageable student debt, with women carrying nearly two-thirds of it and Black women most severely burdened. That debt affects every aspect of our lives, including our ability to care for our children, buy homes, and save for retirement. At this time when the cost of gasoline, food, housing, and nearly everything else has skyrocketed, we looked to President Biden to provide relief and today he delivered.
