Statement “North Carolina’s moms applaud the budget proposal Governor Cooper released today because it will boost North Carolina’s kids, families, businesses, and our economy. We are particularly grateful for Governor Cooper’s commitment to ensuring every child in North Carolina has access to a sound basic education, beginning in early childhood.

Statement "Today, on Equal Pay Day, moms are reminding our elected leaders: The wage gap is unacceptable, unjust, and devastating to families’ economic security and to our economy. Unless Congress takes action, women will continue to lose $400,000 on average over the course of a 40-year career to the wage gap.

Statement “America’s moms celebrate the precedent-setting FY24 budget proposal the President released yesterday because it is the strongest budget proposal on paid family and medical leave and child care/early learning in our country’s history. It restores the fully refundable Child Tax Credit, which promises dramatic progress in reducing child poverty. It makes long-overdue reductions in health care and prescription drug costs, and provides coverage for those in states that have failed to expand Medicaid. It provides more funds for school meals and the Women, Infants and Children program.

Statement “Our nation’s families and economy continue to suffer because of persistent wage discrimination, with moms and women of color facing the widest wage gaps and the most devastating harm. Congress must take action, and passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act would be an essential step toward protecting women from losing much-needed income to wage discrimination. Its speedy passage should be a top priority for every lawmaker.

Statement “The carefully documented, credible news reports that U.S. companies are exploiting and abusing migrant children is horrifying and absolutely unacceptable. Basic protections against child labor apply to migrant children too, and every employer that has exploited minors should face extreme penalties. That many of these children apparently did dangerous work during long, overnight hours makes these violations even more egregious.

Statement "Today, families across North Carolina are able to breathe a sigh of relief with the news that North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore and Senate Leader Phil Berger have reached a deal to pass Medicaid expansion. More than 600,000 North Carolinians have been stuck in our state’s coverage gap for much too long. We are thrilled that will finally end when North Carolina becomes the next state to expand coverage to low-income uninsured adults. The health of our state’s citizens is sure to improve as a result.

Statement “For years, MomsRising members have shared with us the heartbreaking choices they have been forced to make in order to afford insulin. Too many moms have had to struggle with the choice of paying for the insulin a child or family member needs or paying the rent and putting food on the table. Now, thanks to the pressure the Biden/Harris administration and congressional Democrats have been applying, Eli Lilly has agreed to cap insulin costs at a level most families can afford. This is a huge boost and relief for millions of families.

Statement “President Biden made an inspired choice in selecting Deputy Secretary Julie Su to serve as our next U.S. Secretary of Labor. She is a brilliant, proven leader and a powerful champion of low-wage and women workers, including moms, immigrants, and workers of color. She has deep knowledge of the challenges faced by moms in the workforce, the benefits a care infrastructure would provide, and the solutions we need.
