If you are pregnant or pumping at work new legislation signed into law at the end of last year offers you new legal protections! Gone are the days of choosing between a healthy pregnancy and a paycheck. No more pumping in storage closets or the bathroom. Pregnant, breastfeeding, and lactating workers are no longer forced to make these impossible decisions thanks to the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and the PUMP for Nursing Mothers Act (“PUMP Act”).

We all want the same thing – a safe place for our families to live and thrive. That’s exactly what parents are looking for when they reach our border and request asylum. We all want our children to be alive and well. For some parents that means they have to trek international borders to keep themselves and their children safe from persecution and violence.

Today is Equal Pay Day for women across the country. We use this day to highlight the persistent pay gap by marking how far into the year women of all races and ethnicities combined, on average, must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. [1] This is NOT okay, Today is NOT a celebration. *Sign our petition urging Congress to take a multifaceted approach to closing the wage gap immediately! It’s nothing short of outrageous that right now, today, on average women, working full-time,...

Last week, thanks to the pressure that the Biden/Harris administration and congressional Democrats have been applying, the largest manufacturer of insulin in the United States, Eli Lilly, made a terrific announcement: They are capping patient costs for their insulin at $35 per month! [1] This victory shows that our voices and advocacy has a powerful impact. Now it’s time to take the next steps to curb sky-high prescription drug costs for all medications and stop corporate price gouging. Quick...

We need some MOMentum across New York State to remind lawmakers in Albany that NY families need BIG investments in child care so that working parents can work and child care providers can earn family sustaining wages. Last year, we asked Gov. Hochul to invest $5 Billion (yes, with a B!) in child care and sadly the funds allocated in last year's budget fell short of this amount, so this year we're asking again! Right now, lawmakers are figuring out what the NY budget will include and we have to...

“Never say never.” I’ve heard that phrase throughout my life and mostly blown it off. These days, it’s the mantra by which I’ve been living. "I’ll never leave the ranch. I’ll never move away from California. I’ll never be in another romantic relationship." These are things I said -- out loud and in the presence of others who remember I said them. In fact, my mother wrote one statement down after I told her to "mark my words.” She even saved the piece of paper with my extreme declarations of "...

Earlier this winter, I had a frightening experience: my baby had both the flu and an ear infection. Normally, I would get the antibiotics he needed to remedy the situation. Instead, the medications his pediatrician prescribed were out of stock at our local pharmacy. I called multiple pharmacies nearby only to hear the dreaded news that they too were facing a shortage and had nothing in stock. My baby was running a high fever and crying in pain. Fortunately, we were able to go to the next town...
