MomsRising was a driving force behind the measure, generating more than ten thousand emailed letters to legislators, as well as calls and deliveries of cookies, flowers and Polaroid photos of parents and children who would benefit from this long overdue policy.

News release Olympia, WA – Calling it a “national embarrassment” that the United States doesn’t have a paid family leave law, MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner today urged the Washington State legislature to pass the Family and Medical Leave Insurance bill, HB 1658. The bill would create a family and medical leave insurance program that would pay benefits weekly to employees who take time off from work to bond with a newborn or newly placed child, care for seriously ill family members or recover from their own serious health condition.

News release News that a ticket agent forced a mother off a Freedom Air flight run by Delta Airlines for breastfeeding on-board infuriated the MomsRising community last week, generating more than 19,000 signatures on a petition to Delta Airlines since last Friday. Launched earlier this year as an online grassroots organization that supports motherhood and family issues, MomsRising quickly mobilized its members through an email alerting them to the incident and asking them to sign the petition and contact the airlines.
