The bill was already passed by the State House. “Washington will join six other states in banning all employers from asking about pay history. It also provides new rights to some job applicants. Upon being offered a position, applicants may request the minimum salary or hourly rate for a position if the employer has at least 15 employees.

Statement “While Secretary Nielsen’s departure will bring new leadership to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), we need new policies and perspectives that are based on facts and built on a foundation of respect for basic human rights. It is very clear that the problem with our country’s current immigration policies starts at the top. Unless President Trump stops demonizing asylum-seekers and abandons his counterproductive policies, his administration will continue to fail.

Statement “The Paying Hourly Americans Stronger Earnings (PHASE)-in $15 Wage Act (H.R. 2080), introduced today in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-7), is ill-conceived and harmful. At this time when working moms and their families urgently need a raise, we should recognize the national minimum wage as the essential federal protection it is and reject all efforts to weaken it by allowing regional adjustments.

Statement “As our name suggests, MomsRising is a moms organization and we are saying, clearly, loudly, and without equivocation that a paid leave program that provides parental leave only, and fails to cover the vast majority of caregiving needs families face, as U.S. Sen. Cassidy discussed this morning, would be fatally flawed.

Statement “Governor Roy Cooper made a meaningful advance for fair pay today with his Executive Order prohibiting the use of salary history in setting wages for women working for the state. We commend the Governor for taking this action, which is especially significant on Equal Pay Day – the day that marks how long women in the United States must work in 2019 to catch up to what men were typically paid in 2018.

Statement “Each year, Equal Pay Day reminds us that regardless of occupation, education level, work patterns or geography, women in the United States still face unjust, deeply damaging pay discrimination, which harms their families’ financial security and our nation’s economy. On average, women who work full time, year-round are paid just 80 cents for every dollar paid to men; and mothers are paid an average of just 71 cents to a white dad’s dollar.

Statement “Today’s passage of the Paycheck Fairness Act in the House of Representatives is a major step forward in closing the pernicious wage gap that harms women, families, our economy, and our country every single day. This bill will help prevent women from being shortchanged on our paychecks because of our gender and/or race. We thank every representative who voted for it and commend Speaker Pelosi and the House leadership for prioritizing its passage.
