News release Moms across the United States who are members of MomsRising, a national online and on-the-ground organization with more than one million members fighting for policies that support family economic security, today called on Florence, Kentucky Mayor Diane Whalen to rescind the city's discriminatory policy regarding pregnant city workers. This policy, which was cited as the reason that Florence police officer Lyndi Trischler was denied light duty to accommodate her pregnancy, has resulted in Trischler being forced to take unpaid leave, causing her to lose her home.

Statement “As an organization that represents more than a million women and mothers who regularly experience the negative effects of wage discrimination, we at MomsRising are very encouraged by the U.S. Senate today, which for the first time since the bill was introduced, voted to move forward the Paycheck Fairness Act to a full Senate debate by a historic vote of 73-25. Now the Senate has a chance to take the next step and do the right thing: Move the bill forward to a final up-or-down vote for passage.

Statement “The racially-motivated shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown was a shocking reminder that police violence against people of color remains a serious and deadly problem in our nation.  Now, instead of preparing to take her son to college, Michael Brown’s mother is preparing for his burial. That fact breaks the hearts of mothers across the country and we cannot stand by while such police brutality goes without investigation and without prosecution.

Statement “This morning MomsRising member Jeannine Sato joined policy experts at the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Children and Families to discuss the vastly different experiences she had with two separate employers and their policies on family leave. The current lack of universal paid family leave is hurting too many families like Jeannine’s across the country.

Statement Good afternoon, my name is Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and I am the Executive Director of MomsRising. Our million-plus members across the country are extremely concerned about the persistent, biaccumulative and toxic chemicals, otherwise known as PBTs. These potentially lethal substances, which pose the greatest risk to pregnant women and children, need to be scrubbed clean from our environment once and for all. Sen. Merkley’s bill, the Protecting America’s Families from Toxic Chemicals Act, would empower the EPA to do just that.

Statement “The Supreme Court’s ruling in Hobby Lobby v. Burwell was a serious blow to women across the country – including many moms – who use birth control. Reliable birth control that permits women to manage how many children to have, and when to have them, has been nothing short of revolutionary—not just for women and mothers, but for our country as a whole. It's improved the health of women and their families, as well as given women and mothers increased access to economic and political power unlike any other time in history.
