Statement “In a monumental victory for Washington State, its families, small, medium and large businesses and its economy, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee today signed SB 5975 into law, bringing us closer to the day when paid family and medical leave is a reality for every worker in the state. After more than a decade of advocacy from MomsRising members and our partners -- and unprecedented collaboration between worker advocates, business leaders and legislators -- Washington has enacted a powerful paid family/medical leave plan that will serve as a blueprint for states across the nation.

Statement “We commend North Carolina state legislators for raising the age of juvenile jurisdiction for misdemeanors and low-level felonies in the budget they passed yesterday. This puts an end to the days when 16- and 17-year-olds were automatically prosecuted as adults, even for the most minor offenses. This action will advance justice and strengthen families and communities in the state.

Statement “If there was a contest for the worst health care bill, the U.S. Senate Republicans’ bill, released this morning, would win it. It’s out of touch, out of line with our nation’s priorities, and damaging to our families and economy. It’s unconscionable. The bill released this morning would plunge tens of millions of moms and families into crisis, end Medicaid as we know it, and devastate our economy. The cuts to Medicaid, which covers nearly one half of the births in our country, are more devastating than even in the House version of the bill.
