Statement “Today the Maryland State Senate passed SB 230, the earned sick days bill with a veto-proof majority, clearing another hurdle for this commonsense, badly needed legislation. There are still some steps to take before the bill lands on Governor Hogan’s desk but, when it does, we urge him to immediately sign it into law. Gov. Hogan should reconsider his threat to veto it.

Statement “Yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report confirms what we have known all along: The Trump-led Republican health care plan to repeal much of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and restructure Medicaid would strip away health care coverage for millions of people -- 24 million by 2026. The only winners would be the wealthy, as well as the insurance and drug companies that benefit from the bill’s enormous tax cuts.

News release WASHINGTON, D.C. – A powerful coalition today released a paper that offers lawmakers a blueprint for using tax reform to improve the standard of living for children in the United States. At a time when nearly half the nation’s children – and more than three in five children of color – live in poor or low-income households, the paper is both a stirring call to action and a roadmap to help Congress use tax reform to address this problem, which stifles America’s growth and prosperity.

We are Black mothers, Latino, White, Asian, Muslim, older and younger moms, grandmoms, and mothers of all immigration statuses. We are moms who are differently abled, trans and gender non-conforming, and sometimes we are all those moms in one.

Statement “The House Republican plan to obliterate the Affordable Care Act and replace it with a plan that would make health insurance less affordable, less accessible, and less comprehensive is a dangerous step in the wrong direction. This bill would create a health care crisis by throwing millions of people off of their insurance. If it is enacted, fewer people would be covered and those who do have insurance would have weaker protections and face significantly higher costs. It is now clear why House Republicans tried to hide this bill for so long. Congress must reject it immediately.

Statement “Tonight, President Trump will speak for the first time before a joint session of Congress, and all indications are that he will continue to push a radical alt-right agenda that hurts our families, our communities, our economy, and threatens the underpinnings of our democracy. His vision strips healthcare from tens of millions of Americans, perpetuates Islamophobic falsehoods, weakens important workplaces protections, undermines family incomes, and tears communities and families apart via mass deportations.
