Statement “Governor Snyder made a costly mistake today when he signed into law a harmful and unnecessary bill that will strip health coverage away from hundreds of thousands of low-income individuals and families in Michigan. The new law imposes strict work requirements on Medicaid recipients that will almost certainly lead to massive coverage losses for low-income families while increasing costs for the state.

Statement “With yesterday’s vote in the state legislature, Massachusetts moved one step closer to strengthening families and making the state’s economy more competitive by adopting a paid family and medical leave program. Whether taking time off time to care for a new child or a sick family member, being there for families is what matters. Yet too many Massachusetts workers are forced to make the impossible decision between earning a paycheck and caring for a loved one or recovering from illness or injury themselves.

Statement “The Farm Bill the U.S. House passed today would make it harder for hungry families to access the food they need, exacerbating hunger in America. It is a devastating plan that would leave a million families without nutrition assistance. It includes unnecessary, harmful and overly restrictive work requirements to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which helps families afford food during hard times.

Statement “Today’s Executive Order (EO) proves that the voices of moms, dads and people are powerful. But this EO does not stop the Trump administration from continuing human rights abuses, like imprisoning entire families, in the name of immigration enforcement, so we will continue to keep our voices raised, our calls going into Congress, and our letter writing, petition signing and rallying at full throttle. Imprisoning children with their families is still imprisoning children.

Statement "The two immigration bills expected to come before the House of Representatives this week are both tremendously destructive – to immigrant and asylum-seeking families, to children and families whose health and well-being are being imperiled by the Trump administration’s cruel policies, and to our country.

Statement “The proposed committee substitute to House Bill 933, now being considered by the North Carolina state legislature, would jeopardize health insurance for people in the state with pre-existing conditions and for mothers, especially those living in rural communities, by making it harder for them to find affordable plans that cover pregnancy and maternity care, prescription drugs, and other essential services.

Statement “Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ gratuitous move to insert himself into long-settled asylum policy in a way that will mean most victims of domestic violence no longer qualify for asylum is shocking, immoral, and the epitome of cruelty. “There will be a direct line between the U.S. Attorney General’s action today and even greater hardship and suffering for victims of domestic abuse.

Statement “The Trump administration put 130 million people at risk of losing their health coverage and care when it went to court last night to demand repeal of the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA’s) protections for people with pre-existing conditions. The administration is now arguing that it is unconstitutional for the government to prohibit insurers from denying or dropping coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

Statement “Sunday, June 10th marks the 55th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act. While we continue to celebrate that momentous legislative achievement more than five decades after its passage, this anniversary serves as a troubling reminder that our country still has a long way to go in closing the wage gap, reducing economic inequality and improving financial security for working women and families.

Statement “Today marks how long mothers in the United States have to work into the new year to earn what fathers were paid in the previous calendar year. In every single state, moms are paid less than dads. That is disgraceful. This persistent wage discrimination doesn’t just hurt moms -- it causes great financial insecurity for families and damages our economy.
