News release SEATTLE, WASHINGTON – Noting the devastating impact of police violence on communities of color and the imperative to bridge the divide between communities and police, MomsRising has endorsed Initiative Measure No. 940 (I-940), a ballot measure designed to reduce police violence through mandatory de-escalation, mental health training, community-based policing policies and removing barriers to holding law enforcement officers accountable for police-involved shootings.

Statement On Saturday, funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expired. This critically important program has reduced the uninsured rate for kids in the U.S. to less than 5% over the past two decades. Historically, support for CHIP has been bipartisan, helping to ensure we always give our kids a winning hand of lifelong health. It provides coverage to nearly 9 million kids and 370,000 pregnant women nationwide. Children enrolled in CHIP have access to routine check-ups, immunizations, prescriptions, dental and vision care, and emergency services among others.

Statement Last night, President Donald Trump signed a new executive order indefinitely banning almost all travel to the United States from seven countries. Starting next month, most citizens of Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Chad and North Korea will be banned from entering the United States. Additionally, certain citizens of Iraq and Venezuela will face restrictions when planning to travel to the United States.

Statement “Today marks Native American Women’s Equal Pay Day, the day to which the average Native American woman working full-time has to work until her earnings match the average pay for a white man from the previous year. Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders earned just 59 cents for every dollar paid to white men last year. For American Indian and Alaska Native women, that number is even lower – just 57 cents on the dollar.
