Expanding Social Security is a Women’s Issue – Let’s Fight Back Against Cuts and Protect Our Future

August 2, 2014
This week, the Social Security Trustees released their annual report about Social Security’s finances. As usual, opponents jumped all over it, sounding the alarm bells and calling for drastic cuts. But they got it all wrong: rather than cutting Social Security we need to expand it in ways that would benefit everyone, and particularly women, who rely on the program so much.

Pídale al Congreso que Suba el Salario Mínimo

July 30, 2014
Una de las realidades de hoy en día es que las mujeres toman tres cuartos de las decisiones de compras en nuestra economía, y cuando las personas no tienen dinero para gastar, nuestra economía sufre como consecuencia.

Living on $7.25: A Challenge for Us All

July 30, 2014
To highlight just how difficult it is to live on $7.25 – around $15,000 a year for a full-time worker – a host of advocacy groups including MomsRising and the National Employment Law Project (where I work) has issued a challenge: try it.

Seven months later... It's time NOW for fair pay!

July 22, 2014
It was on Sunday that the average earnings of Black women in the United States FINALLY equaled the average earnings of white men in 2013. It is July. We’re now 7 months into 2014 – in fact, it’s almost August. That means Black women had to work for more than 19 months to earn what white men earned in 12 months because Black women currently make only 64 cents to a white man's dollar. Your voice is needed now to bring this issue forward. The more of us who speak up, the faster we'll get to solutions.

Summiting Together

July 21, 2014
The White House Summit on working families was last month, but we’re still riding the high of the momentum and energy cultivated at such a groundbreaking event. The fact that our nation’s leaders dedicated an entire day to issues that MomsRising members have been working on since we were founded in 2006 is huge.

This is fourth Domestic Workers Bill of Rights to pass in four years, following New York, California, and Hawaii. It reflects a growing recognition from workers, employers and allies that domestic work is real work and deserves real protections.
