Sara returns to MomsRising after serving as the lead project manager for Oregon Health Authority's trauma-informed COVID-19 vaccination campaign, Safe + Strong, while at Brink Communications. As a former Senior Campaign Director, she mobilized MomsRising's one million members to take action on economic justice issues and shift public policy through digital storytelling, policy advocacy and grassroots organizing. Her work centers the lived experience and expertise of systemically marginalized communities and families living on low incomes. Prior to joining MomsRising, Sara served as a Programs and Policy Associate at the Reproductive Health Technologies Project, where she led the organization's work at the intersections of environmental and reproductive health, rights, and justice. She holds a BA in Political Science and Gender Studies from Bryn Mawr College.

Our economy wouldn’t exist without the power of working people. Even holiday celebrations wouldn’t be possible without our labor. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Festivus, Kwanzaa, or Christmas this month, it’s farm workers, package delivery drivers, cashiers, hospitality staff, and so many other frontline members of our communities that make holiday traditions possible. Here's the problem – pregnant workers in these important jobs are the likeliest to need, but not have access to the basic, but very important protections and accommodations in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (S. 1486). Why? Because despite already passing the U.S. House of Representatives this year and having broad bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate, this important legislation has still not passed.

It’s mission critical that equal pay becomes a reality for ALL women and people because when we experience a wage gap in our paychecks, the overall wealth gap widens across gender and race. When the wealth gap widens for communities already experiencing systemic forces of oppression, like racism, transphobia, xenophobia, and/or ableism, the opportunity gap for our lives and families *also* worsens.
