News release The largest growing segment of the US population is Latinas/Latinos and their votes can make the critical difference in election outcomes across the board. As the United States approaches what may be the most important election in its history, grassroots organization MomsRising, its Spanish language counterpart, MamásConPoder and #WeAllGrow Latina Network are launching #LatinasVotan, a non-partisan bilingual election campaign designed to encourage Latinas and their eligible family members to head to the polls in November.

Statement “In the wake of public outcry and the threat of a U.S. Senate investigation, Mylan today announced that it won’t actually LOWER the cost of its lifesaving EpiPens, but will offer a discount coupon to some purchasers. Given that the company has increased the cost of this crucial medication 450 percent in the last three years, and the epinephrine itself costs a dollar to manufacture, this move is wholly inadequate and incredibly cynical. Mylan will still reap outrageous profits overcharging for a medication that many people need to survive.

Statement “Childcare now costs more than college in most states in our nation. It’s a true emergency. Parents need safe, enriching places for their children to be so they can work; and children need safe, enriching early education so they can thrive. While we are encouraged that both Presidential candidates are tackling the issue of affordable childcare, Donald Trump’s new proposed childcare tax deduction plan falls far short of a solution: It’s great for the wealthy, but it doesn’t fix the childcare crisis for the majority of parents in America.

Statement NEW YORK CITY -- Earlier today, the NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio’s Leadership Team on School Discipline and Climate released their final recommendations calling for an end to all school suspensions for children grades K-2.   In reaction to the decision, Monifa Bandele, Senior Campaign Director for MomsRising issued the following statement praising the Mayor’s Leadership Team for taking steps to end the school-to-prison pipeline and urging him to take on additional reforms:

News release Washington residents strongly support ensuring all workers can earn paid sick leave, according to a new public opinion survey. The poll, which was conducted by the national Work Family Strategy Council in 15 states, found that 71 percent of voters in Washington support new paid sick day laws — including 2-1 support among Independent voters.

Statement Last week, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a budget that included funding for the Healthy Corner Store Initiative (HB 250) that tackles some of the state’s leading causes for death by providing money to corner stores and small retailers that would make them better able to sell fresh fruits, vegetables, and other healthy foods. Nutrition-related health problems cost North Carolinians $54 billion each year.
