We stand for advancing gun safety policies and for eliminating dangerous gun laws, like the "stand your ground" law in Florida that contributed to Trayvon Martin's untimely death at age seventeen.

News release With little kids dressed in cow suits and wearing cow ears themselves, moms from across the DC area will be urging U.S. Senators to “mooo-ve” forward on gun safety legislation and choose families and communities over the gun lobby when they get the chance to vote on meaningful gun policy reform. Statement “It’s been a long fight, but today more than a million of New Yorkers are a step closer to being able to take earned sick days to recover from their own illness or to take care of a sick child or other family member. Mayor Bloomberg’s veto was a disappointment, but it was not a defeat. The New York City Council’s override of that veto will allow this important bill to become law in New York City.

Statement “Moms understand how important it is to make sure that their kids have a nutritious diet and they do their best to provide it, but too often their efforts are undermined by junk food sold at school. Statement “The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has not had a director in six years. This is outrageous but can be rectified if the Senate moves quickly to confirm B. Todd Jones to this position.   “As the bureau charged with enforcing federal laws regarding firearms, the ATF plays a crucial role in keeping our families and children safe. Without the leadership and focus of an official director, the bureau is less capable of carrying out its mandate to prevent violent crime. That leadership is needed now, more than ever.

Statement “June 10 will mark the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s signing of the Equal Pay Act. That law was intended to ensure that women would get paid the same amount as men for the same job. Fifty years ago, most mothers didn’t work outside the home for pay. Today, a new poll shows that in two out of five households with children under the age of 18, moms are the primary breadwinners. And child care costs are skyrocketing.

News release MomsRising.org, an organization of more than one million moms who are working to help ensure economic security for all families in the United States, responded sharply to public comments that mothers who work outside the home are to blame for societal ills.   The attacks were made on-air by Fox News contributors, hosts and, most recently, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant. At a Washington Post event this week, Governor Bryant said that America is so “mediocre” in educational outcomes because “mom is in the workplace.”
