News release Workers at the Lawrence Polartec factory today protested the company’s policy of not offering its employees paid sick days and calling on the Massachusetts legislature to pass paid sick days legislation. When Polartec bought the factory from the locally-owned Malden Mills, the national company announced that it would not follow its predecessor’s policy of providing paid sick days.

News release California moms and kids visited the Capitol in Sacramento on Tuesday to urge lawmakers to expand health care coverage for children. The group delivered packages of Lifesaver candies and more than 800 personalized messages from moms, dads and grandparents all over the state.

News release MomsRising.org, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, praised the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which went into effect today.   “Today, children across the United States are safer and their parents have more peace of mind,” said MomsRising.org Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner. “Not only must toys and infants’ products meet strict new standards for lead and phthalate levels, but parents will also have access to a database of consumer complaints about these items.”

The expanded program will cover an additional four million children in the U.S. for the next four and a half years.

Statement It was with great pride and great joy that I attended today’s Presidential signing ceremony of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. As someone once said famously, “it’s been a long time coming,” but now federal law ensures that employees are able to seek redress if they learn that they have been discriminated against in pay because of their gender, race or ethnicity.

News release MomsRising.org, the online and on-the-ground grassroots organization for moms and everyone who has a mom, praised the U.S. Senate for passing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which will make it easier for employees to sue for pay discrimination. MomsRising.org mobilized its more than 150,000 members in support of the legislation soon after Congress took up the legislation following the Supreme Court’s ruling in Ledbetter v. Goodyear.
