Remember the $1 trillion of funding for health care that Trump and Republicans in Congress slashed over the summer? $170 billion of that funding has since been funneled to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). [1] That’s right—your tax dollars that once paid for our health care are now funding...

On the radio show this week we dive into the negative impact of ICE's presence on Minnesota students and their ability to show up to learn. Then we hear about the No Kid Hungry campaign, the importance of SNAP for 14 million food-insecure children, and the need to protect it from funding cuts. We also cover the effectiveness and safety of vaccines, including the HPV vaccine. In closing we discuss the power and importance of storytelling in advocating for health care and disability rights.

This week, a meaningful opportunity for Washington State to fix its inequitable tax code and stabilize our state’s overall health was introduced in the legislature. This Millionaires Tax (HB 2725/SB 6346) will be a major structural shift in the direction of fairness and tax justice. It asks millionaires to pay a little more while we bolster sufficient funding for essential programs and become less reliant on regressive taxes like the sales and property tax.

On the radio show this week we dive into the "Mothers of Massive Resistance" in Minneapolis, the impact of the ICE surge on local residents, and the on-the-ground organizing and mutual aid efforts. We also hear about the need for more women to run for office and the importance of political parity. Then we cover the importance of resilience, action, and rebuilding trust in democracy in 2026 with award-winning author and national leader Stacey Abrams. After that, we close the show discussing the high number of women being pushed out of the labor force; how the wage gap is unfairly widening with Black women experiencing a disproportionately negative impact; and what solutions are possible.

When you are raising young kids who learn at the speed of light, you have to do what you can to keep up with them. You have to evolve, and you have to adapt. You learn very quickly as a parent that taking the weight of the world on your own is not an option. Parents roll up their sleeves, they...

Instead of ripping away safety nets for kids and families, we can equitably tax the very wealthy and create new, progressive revenue for our state that will balance our state budget for years to come. Navigating budget shortfalls is a hefty task—but the solution isn’t to balance the budget on the backs of children and families. We have other options available to us, and the scale of the challenges facing Washington families demands that our Governor and state legislature utilize every tool we have to protect child care and early learning investments.
