What's on your W2? Equality?

December 30, 2014
Wage discrimination is very difficult to prove, but a few years ago I did just that. You see, the person who earned more than me is now my husband. We met 9 years ago at Columbia University, and we graduated together with the EXACT same degree.

My 4 must-ask questions for 2015

December 30, 2014
I love the time before and around New Year’s Day. As a coach/speaker/author who has spent almost 30 years studying, writing and teaching in the area of human potential, this window of time–ripe with possibility and potential–always excites me. Yes, January 1 is just another day, but it also...

When moms rise, we ALL rise.

December 30, 2014
Two months ago, my heart froze when I heard about a school shooting at a high school near me in the Seattle-area. On Oct. 24, a shooter killed 4 classmates before fatally wounding himself at Marysville Pilchuck High School.

I'm fighting for my daughter's life.

December 30, 2014
My daughter, Violet, has a rare, life-threatening health condition. When she was young, she had hundreds of seizures, sometimes 30 a day. Her hospital visits sometimes cost more than $250,000 EACH. Before healthcare reform, we had a lifetime limit on Violet’s insurance policy. Now we don’t. Now she’s not going to die because we can’t afford the medicine.

I will NOT go broke when I get sick.

December 30, 2014
A few years ago, all three of my children got sick with the nasty H1N1 flu. I ended up missing several weeks of work to care for them. I got no sick pay and my husband and I slipped deeper into debt. #GFF2015: How to Create a Fitness Plan

December 29, 2014
When my son was born in 2003, I had no idea how I was ever going to exercise, much less work and keep a roof over our heads while caring for an infant – and a colicky one at that! I am pleased to announce that I survived the hellish sleep-deprived year that was my son's first year of life – lol! –...

Like many of you out there, I work full-time, have small children, and am time-famished. Yet, I manage to cook dinner almost every evening. My secret? I prepare and freeze base sauces that allow me to churn out quick, nutritious, and hearty meals in 30 minutes or less. One of my go-to sauces is...

My Game Plan to Protect Kids from Junk Food this Holiday Season

December 24, 2014
On a recent Sunday in my church, a nice lady tried to feed my 18-month-old a piece of chocolate. She wasn’t happy when I politely said "no." “Come on, why don’t you give him a treat? It’s just a leftover Halloween candy,” she said, turned to my child, “I’ll give you a treat when mommy is not around...
