I never thought I'd be one of those 'divorced' women who had to worry about health care after having four children with my partner of 18 years. But this year my COBRA insurance terminates, and I am a lupus survivor and kidney transplant recipient.[gallery] I think I'll probably face some of the biggest challenges this year since I got sick in 1994 - and am very worried about how I'm going to access affordable health insurance. I’m heading to LA this week, a day after the new president will be inaugurated. These are exciting times for women, mothers, children, families and citizens. Even though parties (Big Washington Inaugural Parties) policies, presidents and politics will come and go, hopefully one thing will never change – Our freedom to express ourselves.

I’m one of those women who don’t really consider her ‘political’. In fact, that’s what I told Joan Blades and Kristin Rowe -Finkbeiner when we first met in Washington two years ago. But, like so many other Americans worn down by the economy and urged on by my conscience, I had to choose; My future, or my apathy.
