Omicron is raging & families need support

January 5, 2022
Like many others, my 2022 is off to a rocky start. I am writing this as I scramble to find a COVID-19 test appointment for my feverish two-year-old and my son is home with his school closed. I know I am far from alone. Families need a lifeline, but just when we need help the most, the U.S. Senate failed to act before the new year to extend the monthly Child Tax Credit payments and pass key policies like paid family and medical leave and child care that would have helped families, businesses, and our economy weather this COVID-19 surge.

Because working people make the holidays possible…

December 16, 2021
Our economy wouldn’t exist without the power of working people. Even holiday celebrations wouldn’t be possible without our labor. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Festivus, Kwanzaa, or Christmas this month, it’s farm workers, package delivery drivers, cashiers, hospitality staff, and so many other frontline members of our communities that make holiday traditions possible. Here's the problem – pregnant workers in these important jobs are the likeliest to need, but not have access to the basic, but very important protections and accommodations in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (S. 1486). Why? Because despite already passing the U.S. House of Representatives this year and having broad bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate, this important legislation has still not passed.

Childcare is a Public Good

November 23, 2021
“The free market works well in many different sectors, but childcare is not one of them. It does not work for the caregivers. It does not work for the parents. It does not work for the kids. And because it does not work for them, it does not work for the country."

Tired Argument on Child Tax Credit Is Simply Wrong

November 15, 2021
There are many things that would hurt children, and giving parents more money to care for them is not one of those things.

A wage gap → a wealth gap → an opportunity gap

October 21, 2021
It’s mission critical that equal pay becomes a reality for ALL women and people because when we experience a wage gap in our paychecks, the overall wealth gap widens across gender and race. When the wealth gap widens for communities already experiencing systemic forces of oppression, like racism, transphobia, xenophobia, and/or ableism, the opportunity gap for our lives and families *also* worsens.
