Right now your members of Congress are getting ready to head home for the Fourth of July recess. They will be enjoying BBQs, going to community picnics, and marching in patriotic parades.

While they’re home, we also want our members of Congress to read YOUR letter in the local newspapers calling on Congress to support the troops and boost local families by voting to protect working family tax breaks like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit.

Yes, you read that right: YOUR letter! :)

**Will you join me in writing a Letter to the Editor in support of military and working families in honor of the 4th of July?

What does this have to do with supporting military families? A whole lot! More than 63 million families, including 1 in 4 current or former armed forces families with children, make ends meet and avoid falling into poverty by using the EITC and Child Tax Credit. This extra money gives our families a boost throughout the by helping them to pay for things that otherwise might be unaffordable like a car to get to work, a place to live, shoes for our kids, and other necessities. And by making those purchases we are funneling money back into our local economy, which sorely needs it. In short, these policies boost our families and our economy.

Why write now? Your public support of military and working families who rely on the EITC and Child Tax Credit is needed right now because Congress must act soon or leave 16 million people—including 8 million children and many military families—in financial jeopardy.

We can’t allow these cuts to happen!

Our members of Congress need to understand what’s at stake for military and working families and a letter to your local paper can make that happen!

**Can you take a moment to send a Letter to the Editor to your newspaper calling on your U.S. Senators and Representative to support the EITC and Child Tax Credit for military and working families?

It’s easy! When you click on the link above, we’ll lead you through a quick process to write a Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper. This tool is pretty magical—you can easily edit our pre-drafted letter, if you wish (inserting your personal story if you have one), and send it to your paper with just a few clicks.

The pre-drafted letter (which you can edit when you click through to the link!) is logical, concise, and simply says:

“As our U.S. Senators and Representatives return home for the 4th of July recess they are likely to march in patriotic parades and give speeches about their love for the U.S.A. One real way members of Congress can show their patriotism is, when they return to D.C. next week, they can save key provisions of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit that are set to expire. If Congress fails to act, 16 million people—including 8 million children and many military families—will be pushed into poverty and tens of millions more will struggle to pay their bills.

One in four military and veterans’ families with children are boosted by the EITC and Child Tax Credit. It’s time to truly support the troops by supporting their families and the EITC and Child Tax Credit.”

Just click the link to send a Letter to the Editor to your local paper and stand up for military families and working families across the country! http://action.momsrising.org/lte/LTE_EITC/

We need to increase the visibility of  this issue and the pressure on Congress to truly support the economic stability of military and working families. Writing a Letter to the Editor will signal to Congress that their constituents are concerned about military and working families and that voters expect results when Congress returns to Washington, D.C. after the 4th of July recess.

Join us in grabbing the attention of your members of Congress through your local media now!

After you click the link to send your Letter to the Editor, please forward this email to friends—and also post the action link on Facebook and Twitter. The more of us who send letters, the bigger the impact we’ll have protecting military and working families.

**Don’t forget to take a moment to send a Letter to the Editor to your local paper now.

Thank you for being a strong voice for military families and working families in America!
