On International Safe Abortion Day, we are fighting back against growing attacks on reproductive care and demanding that Congress safeguard medication abortion and telehealth access nationwide.

  • State abortion bans are creating deadly delays in emergency medical treatment, putting women and mothers at direct risk.
  • Medication abortion accounts for nearly a quarter of care delivered via telehealth, offering a safe, confidential, and vital option for patients.
  • Medical choices belong strictly to patients and their healthcare providers — not politicians or judges.

On International Safe Abortion Day, we are fighting back against growing attacks on abortion care and working to protect access to medication abortion — including care delivered safely through telehealth.

The Devastating Impact of Abortion Bans on Health Care

Every person deserves the freedom to make their own choices about their body, health, and future. Everyone should be able to decide if they are having children, and if so, when and how many. But right now, politicians are taking those choices away — and the cost is deadly.

We are already seeing the devastating real-world impact of state abortion bans. Moms like Amber Nicole Thurman and Police Officer Ciji Graham lost their lives because restrictive bans created fear, delayed urgent hospital care, and blocked access to timely, safe medical treatment. [1, 2] No one should die because politicians interfered with basic medical care.

Tell Congress to ensure that people have the power to make medical decisions about their own bodies!

The Vital Role of Telehealth and Medication Abortion

Medication abortion using mifepristone is a trusted and effective way to end a pregnancy and treat medical needs. Today, nearly 25% of all abortion care in the U.S. happens through telehealth. [3] Doctors work virtually with patients to assess their health, mail necessary medications, and provide comprehensive follow-up care.

For millions of people, telehealth is a lifesaver. It gives people access to care when they:

  • Live in states with abortion bans or in rural areas far from clinics.
  • Cannot afford travel, time off work, or child care.
  • Need fast, confidential, and safe care.

Science proves that medication abortion through telehealth is just as safe and effective as in-person care. [4] Yet, anti-abortion politicians continue to spread fake science, file lawsuits, and push the courts and the FDA to ban these proven medications nationwide.

They did not stop at overturning Roe v. Wade, and they will not stop until they have total control over our health decisions.

Decisions about health belong to patients and their doctors — not politicians or judges.

Demand that our leaders follow science, protect safe abortion care, and keep politics out of medicine.
