Statement “The budget bill advancing through key committees in the U.S. House of Representatives is a tremendously welcome response to the most pressing issues facing America’s moms and families. From paid leave to child care to the Child Tax Credit to tax fairness and more, it takes major steps forward that will strengthen families, communities, businesses, and our economy. This is smart, responsive policy that America’s moms and parents applaud.

Statement “America’s moms commend the Biden administration for its plan, released today, which holds great promise for finally reducing sky-high prescription drug costs, which are an enormous problem for families all across our country. No mom should have to make the heartbreaking choice between paying for the medicines her family needs or covering food, rent, and transportation.

Statement “Today serves as a painful reminder of the appalling wage discrimination Native women continue to face and the ways in which this turns into a wealth and opportunity gap for Native communities. In the United States today, a Native woman is paid just 60 cents on average for every dollar paid to a white man. The wage gap is even more harmful for Native moms, who are paid just 50 cents for every dollar paid to white dads. This gap forces many families into poverty and makes it harder for Native women to afford the food, housing, education, child care and health care their families need.

Statement “Last night the U.S. Supreme Court told Texans – and people in every other state with anti-abortion leadership – that they cannot count on the basic constitutional protections everyone in our country deserves. In allowing Texas to ban nearly all abortions and deny pregnant people their right to access this basic health care, the Supreme Court abdicated its duty.

Statement “Gun violence is an epidemic in our state and our country today. Guns kill 100 people in the United States every day of every week of every month all year long. And gun violence has intruded into too many of our schools in a country with more guns than people. This has to stop.

Statement “S.B. 8, Texas’ draconian six-week abortion ban that is set to take effect today, is both a danger and an affront to all those seeking abortion care. Banning this basic health care at six weeks of pregnancy, which is well before most people even know they are pregnant, is blatantly unconstitutional and a clear violation of Roe v. Wade. The U.S. Supreme Court must block it.”

Statement “America’s moms are looking to Congress to pass a budget that includes long overdue investments that will alleviate our country’s maternal health crisis, which is affecting communities of color the most. It is unacceptable that the United States has the highest rate of maternal deaths during labor and delivery of any developed nation, and that Black women’s maternal mortality rate is four times that of white women. There is no reason why -- in the richest country in the entire world -- systemic disparities and implicit bias in the health care system continue to take such a terrible toll.
