It’s appalling.

We’re still celebrating the March 2017 failure of the American Health Care Act (AHCA)—that would have stripped healthcare coverage from about twenty-four million people—to build enough support to pass in the U.S. House.

But the fight for healthcare is far from over!

President Trump, U.S. Health & Human Services (HHS) Sec. Price, and some members of Congress recently threatened to withhold health care subsidies paid to insurers as a way to ‘force’ Democrats to negotiate on a horrible health care bill that will still strip 24 million people of their health insurance! Not on our watch! These subsidies help 7 million low-income families afford health insurance, lift families, and boost our economy.

**Tell Congress, President Trump, and U.S. HHS Secretary Price: Our health care is not a bargaining chip!
It’s time to keep marching, keep raising our voices, and keep the pressure on! It’s immoral and heartless to actively try to collapse our individual health care system and hold millions of families’ health care coverage hostage for political gain as is being done now by President Trump and some members of Congress. Withholding these payments, would cause calamity in the individual insurance market, causing most insurers to stop offering plans altogether, devastating families and our economy.

Congress, President Trump, and U.S. HHS Sec. Price have a responsibility to try to make our health care system better—not to sabotage it. Even just making these public statements has caused uncertainty to grow among health insurers who are currently making decisions about whether to offer plans for 2018. This rhetoric is dangerous for our nation’s health care security, families’ well-being, and our country’s economy.

*Sign on to tell Congress, President Trump and U.S. HHS Secretary Price not to sabotage our health care system! http://action.momsrising.org/sign/health-care-sabotage-2017/?source=blog

Using the health of our nation’s families as a political bargaining chip is immoral and heartless. And actively working to make our health care system implode is beyond the pale. Our President, Congress, and Department of Health and Human Services have a responsibility to shore up our nation’s health care system—not sabotage it.

This is a big deal. A new report from Standard & Poor’s shows that the Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare) marketplaces are actually becoming more stable and may even result in profits for some insurers in 2018. The market is improving, the uninsured rate is at an historic low, and the majority of Americans support the ACA. Now is the time to continue (and build upon) the progress we have made to increase families’ health care security—not destroy it.
