Tis the season for turkey, kitschy side dishes, and once-a-year meals. But, before the family festivities can start, there's one thing left to do: Tell Congress to pass the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S.3307), a piece of legislation that could affect the meals our children eat every day.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act would make historic improvements in school and child care nutrition to address both childhood hunger and obesity. For the first time in 30 years we have a chance to improve school lunches across this country.

But Congress may let this chance slip by.

Children can't afford to wait any longer: Nearly 1 in 4 U.S. children stand on the brink of hunger in the U.S. right now AND 1 in 3 children are obese or overweight.

*Tell your Representative to pass the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and restore funding to food stamps:

**Don’t delay, click that big red button in the box right now—we all need to speak out for food for our children.

This comprehensive, historic legislation would help improve the nutritional quality of school lunches, get junk food out of school vending machines, and support strong nutrition and physical activity policies and practices in schools and child care settings.

This legislation could change a child’s whole day, every day, for the better. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act makes improvements to nutrition and physical activity across the board in child care and school settings. It also:

  • Increases access to a healthy school breakfast;
  • Increases the number of eligible children enrolled in the school lunch program;
  • Takes the junk food out of vending machines and school stores;
  • Gives schools over $300 million a year in reimbursements for school lunches.

Unlike Thanksgiving, lunch doesn’t come once a year: It’s every day. Please take a moment to remind Congress that families are counting on them:

And also please take a moment now to send this link along to friends and family by forwarding this email now so they too can take action for kids.

Happy Thanksgiving!
