Every month feels like a new exercise in stretching my family budget a little further. With three growing teenagers at home, grocery runs happen constantly, and the total at checkout never fails to leave me shocked at how expensive everyday essentials have become.

Now with summer on the horizon, families across the country keep struggling with rising costs, unaffordable health care, expensive prescriptions, rent, childcare, and groceries. But instead of focusing on lowering costs and helping working families, Republican leaders in Congress are preparing to vote on a deeply toxic proposal that would pour another $70 billion of taxpayer money into ICE and CBP with no constraints and a ballroom for Trump. [1]

Take action: Demand Republicans in Congress reject $70 billion in funding for an out-of-control ICE and CBP, and Trump’s ballroom, and instead invest in health care, child care, aging and disability care, food assistance, and lowering costs for families.

Why is this proposal so outrageous?!

ICE and CBP already have more than $100 billion in unspent funds sitting in their accounts right now, with little accountability for how the money is being used. [2] In fact, those existing funds alone could finance both agencies through the fourth quarter of 2027. [3] They do not need another dollar.

Instead of investing in solutions that help people afford everyday life, this proposal doubles down on detention, deportation, and family separation. It would expand harmful immigration enforcement policies with no constraints while pulling workers out of industries like agriculture, construction, health care, child care, home care, and food service, policies that make the affordability crisis even worse.

And there’s more... The same bill would also allocate $1 billion for a White House ballroom, despite Trump previously promising it would be funded through private donations. You read it right. Yes, a ballroom over our care!

TAKE ACTION NOW! Families deserve investments in programs that make life more affordable: health care, child care, education, and dignity, not more cruelty and chaos.

Moms like Carmen in Wyoming are telling us what families are experiencing every day: “Groceries are so expensive! I’ve had to pick and choose what to buy. Prescriptions are astronomically priced as well. My husband relies on medications to stay alive. This is not ok.”

At a time when families are already stretched thin, Trump’s immigration policies are making the affordability crisis even worse. According to estimates from FWD.us, [4] mass deportations and work permit cancellations could cost the average American family an additional $2,150 per year by 2028. Weekly grocery bills alone could jump from $165 to $195 as industries like agriculture and food service lose essential workers.

Instead of addressing these rising costs and investing in the needs of working families, Trump and Republican leaders in Congress continue advancing policies that would slash trillions from programs families rely on, including childcare, SNAP, and Medicaid, while funneling taxpayer dollars into unchecked ICE expansion, reckless wars, a ballroom for Trump, and tax breaks for billionaires.

With $70 billion being proposed for mass deportations, detention, and policies that fuel human rights abuses, we could instead: [5]
• Provide Medicaid coverage for 2.5 million people through September 2029
• Deliver SNAP benefits to 9.4 million people through September 2029
• Ensure access to Head Start for 1.2 million children through September 2029
• Provide medical care for 1 million veterans through September 2029

Add your name now! Our tax dollars should fund care, not cruelty.

Our families and communities deserve better than a system that spends our tax dollars spreading fear and violence instead of investing them where they belong: Health care, child care, nutrition, and other programs that allow us to build good lives, go to work, and contribute to our communities.

Our nation needs a safe and orderly immigration process that balances compassion and security, not cuts to health care, and certainly not cruelty or violence. Take action today!
