Rage.

Rage is the best way to describe how I’ve been feeling this week with the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. And I know I am not alone.

Why? Because next week the U.S. Supreme Court will begin hearing oral arguments about a case that would decimate the Affordable Care Act (ACA), possibly in its entirety, including protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Despite this legislation having expanded health care access for nearly 25 million people (and strengthened protections for hundreds of millions more), Judge Barrett’s previous statements about the ACA indicate its fate—as well as the health care security of all those it has helped access care—looks precarious. Rage might not even be a strong enough word for how we should all feel if our health care protections are ripped away by an extreme U.S. Supreme Court decision.

Take action NOW by sharing your story about why the protections of the Affordable Care Act are important for your family. → Make a video or Write your story

What can you do? The most impactful action you can take in this moment is to speak out and tell absolutely everyone that you can about what is at stake for you and your family in this Supreme Court case. Your voice is powerful! Sharing your story helps your friends, community, and elected leaders understand the REAL impact of the Affordable Care Act on people’s lives and helps change the national dialogue about this critically important law.

We’ve made it super easy, you can:

  • Make a quick video - Using our simple tool, record a short video (<90 seconds) right now using your computer or phone about what is at stake for your health care if the Affordable Care Act is struck down—and why everyone should have access to health care. These videos will be shareable and include an overlay of the question, your first name, state, and MomsRising’s website at the end to help enlist and engage all of your viewers to join us in this fight to save our health care. (You can see sample videos before recording yours, too, to see what others have shared.)
  • Write your story - Send us your story in written form so that we can share your experiences with leaders, on our blog, and on social media. Personal experiences are powerful and can make a HUGE difference in helping elected leaders understand how health care policies impact families.

This fight is personal to me, and I know it is to you, too. The Affordable Care Act is what enabled me to finally get health insurance after being priced out and denied insurance for years before it was enacted. This law is what will ensure that my son—who had chemotherapy as an infant—will not be discriminated against due to the “pre-existing condition” with which he was born.

The Affordable Care Act has improved the health care security of hundreds of millions of people—like me and my son—across the country, and now its fate hangs in the balance. We cannot be silent. Make your video or write your story NOW!

With over 225,000 people dead so far from the COVID-19 outbreak, and millions more sick, the new “pre-existing condition” of having had coronavirus could now also prevent people from getting insurance if the Supreme Court strikes down the Affordable Care Act. Further, at least 20 million people would lose coverage while this pandemic—and its economic fallout—is still ravaging our communities.

Your voice is needed now more than ever to influence and shape the national conversation around health care. Together, we have already won in previous attempts to repeal or strike down the law. It took the voices of people all across the nation to do so and we can do it again.

Take action now! Make your video or write your story about why the Affordable Care Act is important for your family.
