Take Action!

When my son was born in 2006, he needed to start chemotherapy at six weeks old to treat a life-threatening tumor. He needed round-the-clock care, so I had to quit my job to care for him, which meant we also lost our employer-sponsored health insurance. We were incredibly fortunate that he qualified for Medicaid, but after a lapse in coverage for myself, I found out I was uninsurable due to some minor pre-existing conditions.

I remained uninsured for a few years—putting off much needed care and prescriptions—while I cared for my son. It wasn’t until the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was passed, which made it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, that I was able to buy affordable health insurance coverage on the Marketplace.

Now Congress and President-Elect Trump are poised to roll back access to healthcare. Tell them: Not on our watch!

Access to healthcare is a life saver, keeps families like mine from being pushed into poverty by illness, and protects our economy. Yet President-Elect Trump and Congressional Leadership plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act first thing in 2017—without a replacement plan! This will have a devastating impact on millions of families and on our economy.

Not on our watch!

*Sign our open letter to President-Elect Trump and to U.S. House and Senate Leadership. Tell them NOT to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) which would reverse the enormous progress we’ve made in getting families the health insurance they need.

A new independent study from the Urban Institute confirms that repealing the ACA without a replacement plan will leave tens of millions of Americans—almost 30 million people—without the security of health coverage. Because of the chaotic ripple effect of repealing the Affordable Care Act, a higher rate of Americans will be uninsured than before the ACA was passed in 2010.

In these uncertain times, working families value the safety and security of health coverage more than ever. Instead, Congressional Republicans are moving forward with a risky plan to take away health coverage from millions of people, putting our health and well-being at risk. Repealing the Affordable Care Act without a replacement plan will more than double the number of uninsured children in America—leaving 4 million children uninsured.

This is NOT okay.

Sign on now! Tell President-Elect Trump and Congressional leaders, “I support the Affordable Care Act!” http://action.momsrising.org/sign/protect_our_healthcare/

The repeal of the ACA would be devastating to families. Hard-working people across the U.S. have benefited greatly from this new law through improvements such as:
  • All new insurance plans are required to cover preventive services at no cost—like check-ups, well-child visits, birth control, cancer screenings, and vaccines.
  • People with pre-existing conditions like asthma, cancer, and diabetes can no longer be denied or charged more for coverage.
  • People with chronic illnesses no longer face lifetime caps on their benefits that basically cuts off their coverage when they need it most.
  • Medicaid has improved and now provides coverage to millions more, including hard-working parents.
