It is Hispanic Heritage Month and this year’s celebration coincides with another historic date: October 1st, 2013 marks the first day, in which millions of uninsured Americans will qualify for affordable, comprehensive health coverage through the new state health insurance marketplaces. Latinos have a lot to gain.

Out of 48 million uninsured Americans, a third are Latinos and at least half will qualify for financial assistance to pay for health insurance. This represents a new chapter and era in Latino health, life expectancy and potential. I urge you to go Healthcare.gov, input your zip code and find out if you qualify!

Without further ado, please join me and MomsRising.org for a virtual fiesta. Below you will find a series of blog posts about and in promotion of Latino health and well-being. Please leave a comment or two in support of the writers and share with your social media networks.

May this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month usher in good health and prosperity to you and your family! ¡Saludos!
