Jacksonville, children will pay the price on Amendment 3
Jacksonville families, We need your voice.
This November, Florida voters will vote on Amendment 3. And if it passes, it will mean less money for local services you, your family, and your neighbors use every day.
How do we already know? During the August 26, 2026 City Council budget hearing, a $5 million cut to Kids Hope Alliance (KHA) children’s programs was proposed in preparation for Amendment 3 possibly passing.
We are only four weeks into the school year, and families are using these programs right now. KHA helps fund free or low-cost afterschool care for thousands of Jacksonville children at specific schools across the county. But KHA’s reach goes far beyond afterschool care. It also funds:
- Summer Camps,
- Early Learning Programs,
- Mentoring,
- Tutoring and Academic Support,
- Youth Development,
- Job and Career Programs for Teens,
- and other services that help keep children safe, supported, and learning.
On Tuesday, September 15th at 1:00 p.m., KHA will go before the City Council Finance Committee again, where decisions about these proposed funding cuts will continue.
Jacksonville families have three ways to take action:
- Can’t make it in person? Use the form linked here to tell us why you want the Finance Committee to protect funding for KHA children’s programs before September 15,and we will help deliver your comments to them at the meeting.
- Come to City Hall on September 15th at 1 pm for the Finance Committee meeting and speak during public comment. When you arrive, you can grab a speaker card to fill out and tell them why KHA services are critical to our community. You don’t need to be a policy expert. Simply fill out a comment card when you get there and share what these programs mean to your family and what losing them could mean.
- And pledge to vote No on Amendment 3 and Save Our Services!
Our city and the community need to work together to protect programs that help children and working families, not cut them before voters have even had their say.
