Obesity is threatening the United States.

Today, more than 23 million children and teenagers, approximately 1 in 3, are obese or overweight.  This number is staggering and far-reaching. Children who are obese or overweight have a higher risk of developing obesity related diseases, like diabetes, hypertension, high cholestoral and more. It also sets a precedent for their adulthood.

With children eating almost 50% of their calories in schools, it's vital to have schools on board with healthier school meals. Currently, 90% of US schools are serving healthier meals. This is fantastic! We must continue moving forward for our children and the future of the United States. Retreat is not an option. Ensuring children are healthy and hunger-free is possible.

Join #FoodFri with @MomsRising and @Mission_Ready on Friday, November 14, 2014, at 1pmET, 10amPT to chat about childhood obesity, the number one health concern for parents and the United States, even higher than drug abuse and smoking.

We must not retreat, or surrender, in this battle against the number one threat to the United States! Raise your voice during our #FoodFri tweetchat! And, invite a friend by clicking below.

More about our #FoodFri Featured Panelist(s):

The goal of Mission: Readiness isn’t to steer kids into a life of military service. Retired admirals and generals believe that we all have a responsibility to help young people grow up to stay in school, stay fit, and stay out of trouble so that they can succeed at whatever they choose in life, including a career in the military, if that's what they wish. Our economic and national security depend on it.

Mission: Readiness is the nonpartisan national security organization of 500 retired admirals and generals calling for smart investments in America’s children.  Today, more than 70 percent of young Americans cannot serve in the military, primarily because they are too poorly educated, too overweight, or have a serious criminal record.

Connect with Mission: Readiness on their website, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
