Today, we were stunned and outraged to hear the National Rifle Association's (NRA) CEO Wayne LaPierre blame everything except guns for the tragic deaths of 20 children and eight adults in Connecticut.

His main suggestion for preventing gun violence?  More guns.  And, on top of that, more guns near children.

*We need you to join us in telling Congress that it's time to pass gun safety reforms to protect our kids, our families, and our communities:

There are several specific common sense, evidence-based policies that experts agree could have a significant impact reducing gun violence. It's time to enact them now.

It's time for a change.  SIGN ON to the same "Pledge to Protect Our Children and Communities" that we are also asking our country's leaders to sign!

We will deliver the signatures to every member of Congress in January.  (You can see the full pledge text below.)

(After you sign, pass it on!  The more signatures that we can deliver to Congress, the bigger the impact we'll have together.  So please take a moment now to help gather more signatures by forwarding this email and sharing the action link on Facebook with friends and family.)

Here's the full text of the Pledge to Protect Our Children and Communities:

We, the moms and leaders of the United States, pledge to push for the following gun safety reforms to protect our kids, our families, and our communities:

  • Criminal background checks for all gun purchases, including at gun shows and on the Internet.
  • A ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
  • A federal gun trafficking statute to crack down on criminals who illegally traffic guns onto our streets and south of the border to Mexico.

*This pledge is brought to you by MomsRising--and is by and for moms and families throughout our nation.

Don't forget to SIGN ON here:

It's time to put kids and common sense first. We need Congress to step up and protect our children and communities.

And people across the political spectrum agree that it's time to do more to prevent gun violence. For example, one National Rifle Association (NRA) member just emailed us this message:

"I am an NRA Certified firearms instructor but I agree, enough is enough! The NRA needs to do some common sense thinking about gun control. The Second Amendment never intended to support the lunacy about guns that the NRA supports. It is time for more logical heads to stand up against the NRA's stiff necked gun policies."  -- MomsRising member, Michael, NRA Instructor

Now is the time for all of us to stand up for kids and families.

Now is the time for Congress to pass common sense gun regulations that protect each and every member of our nation, from our smallest to our tallest.

*Please take a moment to sign the "Pledge to Protect Our Children and Communities" and then pass it on now:

Together, we're a powerful force.

P.S. How is gun violence impacting you? We'd love to hear your thoughts.  This could be anything from your thoughts on what's been happening in the nation right now, to what's going on in your life.  We're pulling together stories from people across the nation to deliver to leaders.  Share your thoughts and experiences here:

P.P.S.  Want to sign up to drop off the "Pledge to Protect Our Children and Communities" with signatures at the office of your local in-district Congressperson in January?  Sign up here and we'll give you all the information you need:
