The DC summer heat has arrived, but our sidewalks and playgrounds aren't the only things heating up. The campaign for DC paid leave is hotter than ever!

We're on the cusp of a victory and, together, we can make sure that the DC council passes 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave this month! We can't afford to wait any longer for this important legislation.

RSVP NOW: On Wednesday, June 8th, join MomsRising in bringing the voices of families from all eight Wards to the DC Council!

Last month, DC MomsRising members and families decorated baby onesies for each DC Councilmember in support of paid family and medical leave. Now it's up to us to deliver them with an urgent message: Pass DC paid leave before this session wraps up!

In its current form, the DC Universal Paid Leave Act would provide 12 weeks of paid family & medical leave for people who live and/or work in DC. Now it's up to us to make sure it passes!

JOIN US! --> Deliver baby onesies in support of DC paid family & medical leave!

*This is a family and kid-friendly event!*

Here are all the specifics for you:

What: This is a special delivery to the DC Council in support of the DC Universal Paid Leave Act! We will visit each Councilmember to deliver baby onesies and hundreds of signatures in support of paid leave.

When: Next Wednesday, June 8th, from 10am - 12pm

Where: The DC Council: 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20004. It's extremely metro-accessible, with three metro stations within close walking distance. When you RSVP, I will send you everything you need to know about public transportation and parking!

Who: You and your kids — the most important part! You'll be joining other DC-area parents, MomsRising staff, and our friends from the DC Paid Leave Campaign in making our voices heard on paid leave for DC!

SIGN UP TODAY: Join us on the front lines of ensuring that the DC Council passes paid family and medical leave!

Right now, one in four working mothers must return to work just TWO WEEKS after giving birth because they don't have access to paid family & medical leave. Other new moms are forced to pull a "Mom MacGyver" by cobbling together a few weeks of vacation and a few earned sick days (if they're lucky enough to have them) to stay home to recover from childbirth and/or welcome a new child into their lives. This is unacceptable and simply devastating for working families and for our economy.

When the DC Universal Paid Leave Act passes, families will experience fewer financial hardships in order to care for a newborn you swear already smiles, recover from your own illness, or assist an ailing family member who needs your care.

RSVP today to make sure paid leave becomes a reality for all who live and work in DC — and have fun doing it!

Study after study shows that paid leave is good for working families, businesses, and local economies. We even have evidence from the paid leave programs implemented in California, Rhode Island, and New Jersey that demonstrates just how much an entire state benefits when paid leave laws are passed. We hope to see you on June 8th so we can give DC-area families and businesses a big boost by pushing DC paid leave across the finish line!

Together, we're a powerful force for DC's women and families.
