Can You Call Congress Today to #ExtendUI!?

Time is short.  Unless Congress acts now to renew federal unemployment insurance, nearly 2 million people will be cut off in the month of January alone. Millions more would have this critical lifeline cut off in the near future – over 6 million would lose these benefits during 2012. [1]

Unemployment insurance isn't just good for families struggling to make ends meet; it is also good for the economy. Extending unemployment insurance will immediately help keep 1.8 million families afloat--and will also continue to support our struggling economy. How does it help our economy?  Well, studies show that the money received as part of unemployment insurance is usually spent right away, and as a result, an independent study found that every $1 spent on employment insurance stimulated $2 in growth in the U.S. economy. Call-In TODAY to Renew Unemployment Insurance

Thanks to our friends at NELP and AFSCME 888-245-3381 is a dedicated toll-free Call-In-to-Congress number for the campaign to renew the federal unemployment insurance program for 2012. Also, http://www.nelp.org/page/content/click_to_call_renew_ui_2012/ is a dedicated UI renewal Click-to-Call page that can also be used to connect people to their Members of Congress by phone through the call-back feature.

Families should be able to work hard and get what they need -- a good job, food on the table, good health, and a safe place to call home. Yet too many people who want to work, can't find jobs. Cutting off unemployment insurance will only hurt those families more, while further damaging the economy.

We can do better.

When times are hard, instead of cutting back vital programs, we need to make sure that families are protected.

Together, we can send a strong message to Congress. They need to pay attention to the families struggling on Main Streets across the nation. Furthermore, when greedy corporations rig the economy, America loses.  One important step forward that Congress can take now for people on Main Streets across the nation is to extend the federal unemployment insurance program now.

Take Action and Call-in TODAY to augment and amplify all the ongoing efforts to #extendUI!!

NELP will keep the Call-In number and Click-to-Call page live until Congress acts to renew these critical unemployment insurance benefits for millions of long-term unemployed workers.  And we urge people to keep calling every day until Congress acts.

Since the 888-245-3381 call-In number and http://www.nelp.org/page/content/click_to_call_renew_ui_2012/ click-to-call page are live now, you can call right now… and keep calling!

Please also forward this email to friends--and post the action link on your Facebook page--so that more people can show they care about the millions of unemployed Americans who are struggling to find jobs and make ends meet.

Thanks so much for your work on behalf of America's families!
