Action Alert: Delivering the Bill to Washington, DC

Summary: As the 2027 budget proposal threatens deep cuts to health care and child care to fund military spending, MomsRising is launching a national receipts campaign. We are collecting the real monthly costs families pay for essential needs to create a giant visual record for lawmakers this Mother’s Day.

  • Kitchen Table Math: Families are making impossible choices between gas, rent, and groceries while federal priorities shift.
  • The Mother’s Day Mobilization: Moms will take to the streets of Washington, DC, to show elected leaders the physical evidence of the affordability crisis.
  • The Goal: Demand that taxpayer dollars be reinvested in families rather than being used to fund wars on the backs of children.

Families' bills are mounting with no end in sight. Gas prices are going up every time we blink. Health care premiums going up. The car is hanging on by a thread (PLEASE don't break down!). Child care and housing trying to compete on which one gets more of the paycheck. Receipt after receipt, bill after bill: The math isn't math-ing in this economy.

While President Trump's budget proposes cuts to health care, child care, and housing to increase spending for an unpopular war in the trillions and give ICE more money to terrify immigrants, families are making very difficult budget decisions at our own kitchen tables. If we have to read each one of our receipts and bills trying to decide which ones we can pay first, lawmakers should be reading them too.

How much per month do you pay for child care, health care, housing, and other household expenses?

CLICK HERE to quickly input the approximate amounts so we can show elected leaders what their decisions are costing American families!

Mother's Day is around the corner, and moms are sick and tired of rising costs. Forget the flowers and chocolates. Moms want to stop seeing sticker shock when they look at their receipts. That's why moms will be on the streets of Washington, DC showing our receipts, along with yours and those of other families across the nation, directly to lawmakers with a clear message: Our Tax Dollars, Our Families!

Why do they need to see our receipts right now?? Because our tax payer dollars going to wars (instead of to the programs where they) belong isn't going to pay our rent. Wars aren't going to bring gas or grocery prices down. Wars won't pay for our child care or health care. But don't take my word for it. The President said it himself.

Just days ago President Trump said that paying for war is more important than paying for daycare, Medicaid, or Medicare. [1] LIKE WHY?! WHAT!? Mind you, we managed to fund universal child care during World War II [2]...but President Trump thinks we should shoulder his expensive wars on our nation's child care and health care funds. And his budget is no different. The President's budget proposal cuts funding for critical child care, health care, mental health, and housing programs while continuing his attacks on immigrant families and increasing spending for an unpopular war in the trillions. [3]

Let's be real: Chocolates and flowers are cute, but what moms ACTUALLY want is to be able to afford to pay our bills. Families like yours and mine have the receipts: The cost of raising a family is too damn high and we need our tax dollars going to our families, not make deep cuts into the budgets of real, hardworking families to pay for wars nobody asked for.

Help us show legislators in Washington, DC the receipts and tell them how much the President's war is costing your family each month in costs that are shifted to YOU.

*** We'll put all the numbers together on one giant, long receipt to show elected leaders just how much families are paying and how much is at stake! And, don't worry, your personal information will not be shared!
