“I am, and have been, disabled for several decades because of severe eosinophilic asthma, which I was born with. Were it not for Medicaid, I don’t know how I could afford my co-pays on medical visits and my medications…”

Quick signature! Medicaid cuts would devastate healthcare access for people with disabilities like Rose – and also put healthcare access for than 72 million Americans who get healthcare through Medicaid in jeopardy. What’s happening? Earlier this month, the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives passed a budget resolution that would cut at least $880 billion in Medicaid funding through 2034—which would affect 72 million Americans who rely on this program for their health insurance. [1] Currently, Medicaid covers 15 million Americans with disabilities nationwide, providing essential health coverage and life-changing support services that help them live independently and thrive in their communities. [2]

What is behind this callous and disastrous move? Greed. That’s right, Republican leadership in Congress wants to prioritize tax cuts for billionaires and corporations at the expense of the health needs of families across the nation! [3]

Medicaid ensures care is available for more than 72 million people when we need it, and it is especially crucial for people with disabilities. For the disability community, Medicaid isn't just insurance—it's independence, dignity, and survival. Medicaid provides essential healthcare services and home and community-based services including personal care attendants, specialized medical equipment, employment supports, and relief for family caregivers who would otherwise shoulder impossible financial burdens and caregiving challenges.

Medicaid covers approximately two-thirds of people with disabilities and is the largest payer for long-term services and supports that help people with disabilities live independently. [4] Without Medicaid, many people with disabilities would be forced into institutions rather than being able to live and thrive at home with their families, loved ones, and their communities.

Tell Republican leaders in Congress that people with disabilities NEED Medicaid! When you click, you'll automatically sign on if we already have your information.

It can already be a challenge for eligible people to maintain Medicaid coverage. Imagine what will happen when states are forced to cut services due to federal funding reductions. People with disabilities will face even greater barriers to maintaining the services they desperately need.

If these cuts become reality, waiting lists for disability services will grow exponentially, coverage will be lost, and life-sustaining supports will disappear! Families already stretched thin will face impossible choices about how to care for loved ones with disabilities.

This critical lifeline must be protected! Tell Republican leaders in Congress: NO cuts to Medicaid!

When you click on our action link you'll automatically sign our petition that reads:

Dear Congress,

We urge you to protect Medicaid funding and oppose any budget cuts, block grants, or per capita caps that would threaten healthcare access for more than 72 million Americans, including millions of Americans with disabilities. In fact, Medicaid is essential for more than 15 million Americans with disabilities who rely on its services to live independently, work, and participate in their communities.

These proposed cuts would harm our economy, as well as devastate people with disabilities, forcing people into institutions, eliminating crucial support services, and placing impossible burdens on families. We urge you to reject any proposal that would cut Medicaid funding or restructure the program in ways that reduce coverage.

Instead, we urge you to support policies that strengthen and expand Medicaid access, including for people with disabilities. The lives and independence of millions truly depend on it. Our economy relies on it. And we’re relying on you. Thank you for taking action to protect the healthcare access of more than 72 million Americans, including millions of Americans with disabilities who rely on Medicaid.

Americans across the country have come together to protect health care and Medicaid before—and we must do it again! It’s time to speak out loudly about why Medicaid matters. The more people take action, the bigger our impact, so consider taking a moment to share our action link—and forward this email or post the action link on social media—with your friends and family: https://action.momsrising.org/sign/medicaid_disabilities/
