So, what is the Washington State MomsForce Fellowship, exactly? I’m glad you asked!

Details about the program:

  • The WA MomsForce Fellowship Program is a leadership development opportunity that runs August 2025 - April 2026 for selected parents and caregivers to joyfully grow their advocacy skills and create policy and culture change through creative storytelling, community mobilization, and lobbying at the state level.

  • Due to the nature of the fellowship program and our current state legislative agenda, we prioritize offering fellowship seats to moms and caregivers in WA that have recent lived experience with navigating child care, paid leave, and the affordability crisis. Together, we catalyze these experiences into statewide advocacy so all families can thrive.

  • We know you're busy and that your time and expertise are invaluable! All WA MomsForce Volunteer Fellows will receive a quarterly (4 times over the span of the fellowship) stipend for participation in the program.

  • To build community among fellows and learn from each other, all fellows will participate in monthly 1.5 hour weekday evening video calls on Zoom, one lobby day in Olympia and two in-person weekend retreats (all expenses covered by MomsRising), with the first retreat happening August 1st - 3rd in Seattle.

  • All fellows will be supported by MomsRising staff in leading four community-based advocacy events, actions, or efforts throughout the fellowship, including a capstone project or event at the end of the program. Examples of advocacy actions include: publishing a letter-to-the-editor in your local newspaper, testifying in support of good legislation in Olympia, speaking with journalists about your experiences as a parent, meeting with your state legislators, and hosting community events!

If you’re interested, please APPLY HERE by Friday, May 9th!

To give you an idea of what it’s like to be a Washington State MomsForce Fellow, here’s what a few of our recently graduated Washington State MomsForce fellows shared about their fellowship experience:

Karelys in Yakima: “The fellowship program has been so empowering. You’ll love feeling connected to your cohort of powerful women. They are intelligent, funny, and passionate about changing the world. Before the fellowship, I felt overwhelmed and I didn’t know where to start to push for change. I didn’t know how to cohesively talk about problems and potential solutions. But now I feel so confident in talking to our representatives and asking for help. Now I want to help the rest of my community feel that way.”

Janie in Seattle: “When I started my journey with MomsRising, I thought I didn’t have an impact on my community or much to add in value. I soon found out, my voice was not only heard, but caused a ripple effect. As cliche as it might sound, this fellowship process can change you for the better. I’m leaving this cohort with friends and a community. I’m more confident and assured when I speak that I make a difference.”

Maria in Walla Walla: “I want to extend my profound appreciation to MomsRising for this fellowship opportunity. I've felt truly welcomed and have learned that when we unite, we can achieve significant changes and amplify the voices of those who need to be heard. Meeting other moms with the same spirit was refreshing and gave me hope to persevere during these challenging times for our community.”

Kat in Lake Forest Park: “I am a busy mom of four, so I was unsure of what I could contribute to this group. It ended up being life-changing. I went from knowing very little about public policy to confidently meeting with multiple legislators during our lobby day.”

Melissa in Suquamish: “The fellowship program is a big-hearted group of caregivers who will inspire and support you just as much as you support your own family and community!”
