'This Is the Progress We've Been Counting On!' House Vote Is a Victory for Moms, Families, Businesses and Our Economy. Now the U.S. Senate Must Pass Build Back Better This Year.
“America’s moms, parents, and caregivers have long been sounding the alarm -- and reaching out to members of Congress -- about the urgent need to build a care infrastructure to lift families, businesses, and our economy. We are celebrating the vote in the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Build Back Better Act. We thank every lawmaker who voted for it and commend Speaker Pelosi and the House leaders who worked incredibly hard to win passage of this vitally important measure, which will make it possible for moms, families, businesses, and our economy to thrive.
“We look forward to the U.S. Senate quickly passing Build Back Better and to President Biden signing it into law. When the President signs, working people will finally have four weeks of paid family/medical leave, child care bills will be cut in half for most families, free pre-school will be open to every three- and four-year old, 35 million families will receive the fully refundable Child Tax Credit, access to high-quality home care will be expanded for older Americans and people with disabilities, measures to address racial health disparities and end the Black maternal health crisis will be put in place, health care access will be improved and prescription drug prices reduced, millions of good jobs will be created, wages lifted for care workers, and lasting protections finally put in place for immigrants.
“MomsRising members have been fired up all year long, reaching out to their senators and representatives in vast numbers and creative ways to urge them to build the care infrastructure we all need. Our members have made more than 879,974 constituent contacts with members of Congress already in 2021 in support of the Build Back Better package, including: making tens of thousands of calls to elected leaders; sharing and delivering thousands of stories that show why these policies are needed to hundreds of in-district congressional offices and to every office in our nation’s capital; holding local events including caregiver parades and kite-flying gatherings; submitting hundreds of letters to the editor; speaking out on social media; organizing meetings with members of Congress; signing onto letters to show our support; and so much more. Since September, MomsRising has invested more than $950,000 in targeted ads including digital, mobile and traditional ads, billboards, and more to help make this victory possible.
“The House vote positions Congress to quickly complete the work to make a just recovery from the pandemic possible and to create the care infrastructure our country sorely needs. This is the progress we’ve been counting on. Now we need the U.S. Senate to pass the Build Back Better Act without delay.”
