President Trump’s abuse of power, the ways he covered it up, and his undeniable obstruction of the congressional investigation left responsible, fair-minded members of the U.S. House of Representatives no choice but to vote to impeach him. The House did its duty today. We commend every representative who voted to impeach.

We applaud House leaders for their fair, thorough investigation, which provided a mountain of evidence that President Trump tried to use his influence and taxpayers’ money to coerce Ukraine leaders into interfering in our elections—and then tried to cover up his thuggish, self-serving actions. These allegations have enormous gravity because they threaten the integrity and security of our elections, our ability to have confidence in them, and the foundation of our democracy. This was a blatant abuse of power by President Trump and a clear violation of his oath to ‘preserve, protect and defend’ our constitution.

The fact that no Republicans voted to impeach is not evidence that this impeachment was partisan; rather, it is a sad indicator that a lack of moral courage is pervasive among House Republicans.

We now turn our attention to the U.S. Senate, where an impeachment trial will begin early next year. America’s moms are counting on Senate leaders to protect our democracy by putting patriotism ahead of party and removing President Trump. Our children’s future is at stake. We deserve a President who will fight foreign influence in our elections—not invite it—and who will put the country’s interests ahead of his or her own. Every U.S. Senator owes it to our children to hold the President accountable for abusing his power for personal gain. If they do, we will come through this as a stronger nation.
