Moms Head to Capitol Hill Thursday to Tell Congress:
Families Need Access to Quality, Affordable Healthcare
Event Will Kick Off National ‘Week of Action’ for Healthcare
MomsRising members will be on Capitol Hill Thursday, January 5th to deliver powerful personal stories from parents all across the country that educate leaders about how repealing or weakening the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and gutting Medicaid, Medicare and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) would devastate families. The members will deliver storybooks – collections of more than 175 personal experiences of moms and dads from all 50 states – to members of Congress.
Among the stories is that of MomsRising Campaign Director Felicia Willems of Raleigh, North Carolina, whose 10-year-old son was born with a life-threatening tumor. Willems had to quit her job to provide round-the-clock care, which caused her to lose her employer-sponsored insurance coverage. Pre-existing conditions made it impossible for her to regain coverage, until the ACA became law.
The moms will gather at:
10:30 am on Thursday, January 5
Lobby, Hart Senate Office Building (in front of the black mountain sculpture)
Constitution Avenue between 1st and 2nd Streets NE
MomsRising Executive Vice President Donna Norton will speak at the event to announce the Week of Action for Healthcare that MomsRising and allies are organizing from January 9th to 12th. Throughout the week, members will deliver storybooks to the local offices of their members of Congress in states across the country to educate leaders about how the ACA, Medicaid, Medicare and CHIP are critical for families.
