Next Tuesday, April 28, MomsRising is bringing moms and children, who will be wearing paper crowns, to the U.S. Capitol to ask Congress to address the affordability and care crises that are pushing so many working families to the brink. With Mother’s Day approaching, they will be bringing the message:
We may not be kings, but we deserve your attention, too. We’re counting on Congress to make health care, child care, gas, groceries, and life affordable for our families.
The events will be:
10 am ET, Mother’s Day Champion Pin Award Pop-Up, Capitol Visitors Center, Room 217. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark are among the more than a dozen lawmakers expected to attend. This fun—and photo-friendly—event will feature Members of Congress speaking with families about how our affordability crisis is affecting them. Children will be dressed as superheroes, and moms will recognize lawmakers with “We Love Moms” champion pins. Open to media.
1 pm ET, Moms Pay the Price: The Republican Affordability Crisis, Democratic Women’s Caucus & Mamas’ Caucus Hearing, MomsRising Executive Director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner and MomsRising members from Florida, Georgia and Michigan will testify about how the affordability and care crises are affecting their families. *Media interested in attending in person or virtually should RSVP to lizzie.johnson@mail.house.gov. This hearing will be livestreamed on the Democratic Women’s Caucus Facebook and YouTube feeds.
Also Tuesday, MomsRising members and children will deliver storybooks (cover here) with stories from moms around the country to congressional offices – all with the message that moms and families can’t afford to foot the bill for the economic hardship the Trump tariffs and Republicans’ cruel funding cuts to health care, food, and public education are causing.
On Wednesday, April 29, a small group of MomsRising members will carry an oversized banner with receipts submitted by moms around the country through the halls of Congress and ask lawmakers how they plan to address our country’s affordability crisis.
